The workings of the age of publicity are wondrous strange. Here
we have the seventh book by a novelist previously noted, to the
extent she was noted at all, as the author of slender literary works.
"At Risk" is slender too, though not especially literary, yet somehow
it has vaulted into what remains of the ozone layer; it is a main
selection of the Book-of-the-Month Club, film rights have been bought
by 20th Century Fox, the first printing is 100,000 copies and the
advertising budget is-in the book industry this is a big
number-$100,000.
That all of this should have come to pass is certainly good news
for Alice Hoffman, but it is a ...
