Article: VETERANS CARE CENTER SETTLES SUIT OVER DEATH CALVIN DOSS DIED IN 1998 AFTER A FALL AT SALEM CENTER

The state-owned veterans care center in Roanoke has settled a lawsuit with the wife of a man who died after a fall.

Dorothy Doss, whose husband, Calvin, died in May 1998, sued the state, Virginia Veterans Care Center and others two years later, asking for more than $10 million in a negligence and wrongful-death claim. This week, a Roanoke circuit judge approved a compromise settlement that ends the case and awards Doss and her children more than $100,000.

Included as defendants were management at the veterans care center; Dr. Gerald R. Roller; and Lynda M. Lynch, who was then a licensed practical nurse.

The Virginia Board of Nursing revoked Lynch's license the month after Calvin Doss died. ...
