FRENCH fries, French dressing, French bread; what do all of these
have in common? They're not French.
French fries: In France, they are just called "frites" (fries). I
don't see how it would hurt any French person's feelings to have them
called freedom fries.
French dressing: In my many trips to France, I have never seen
anything like this on a table or salad. The truest French dressings
that we have in this country are mayonnaise, and oil and vinegar. We
super-patriots now may want to consider giving them up.
French bread: Well, you can buy authentic French bread in this
country, but not in this area. Washington, D.C., would be the closest
place to get real French bread. French bread is ...
