Fred Silva's soccer career has always been about making the players around him better.

His 42 career assists are a school record at Virginia Tech, nearly double the total of the next name on the list. These days, Silva is still making other players better, but his role has changed.

Instead of making plays, Silva is coaching others how to do it. A high school coach for the first time, Silva is in charge at Christiansburg High where his mission will be to turn around a program that has been mired in mediocrity. Player development will be key.
