In the thick annals of born-again fervor, few conversions to a new faith rival Lee Iacocca's. He was once Detroit's shrillest opponent of air bags. His sputterings and whinings about the inflatable safety devices derided them as expensive, unpopular and unproven. Now, infused with either amazing grace or amazing gall, he lauds them as "the state of the art in car safety."
