This week, the name of the game at the Kennedy Center is "Mostly
Mozart": a festival of four concerts plus preconcert recitals and
postconcertdancing on the riverside terrace that has become one of
the most popular annual events at the Kennedy Center.
If ever there was a composer who didn't need a festival to keep
his name alive, it is Mozart. Hardly a week passes by without some
of his music being played somewhere in Washington: the Quintet in G
minor last week at the Library of Congress, "The Magic Flute" the
week before at Wolf Trap, a festival this week at the Kennedy Center
and "Don Giovanni" next week at the Wolf Trap Barns-and this is the
slow season.
On records, the Mozart boom ...
