T.J. Vest has been impressing his American Legion baseball coach
all summer.
Danny Evans, the veteran baseball boss of the New River Valley
Yankees, spares no praise when it comes to the left-handed pitcher's
poise and precision on the mound. Evans loves Vest's competitiveness,
not to mention his curveball.
Most of all, Evans admires the soon-to-be Radford University
freshman's willingness to work. Not only that, but the coach is wowed
by the sort of work Vest can do.
"T.J.'s gone all day long working," Evans said. "Then he comes and
plays baseball with us. He's working before he goes to work, too.
He's up to milk his grandfather's cows."
In a manner of speaking.
