It's early yet at the Annapolis city dock.
Just a little after 6 p.m., in fact. The sun still glows hazy
but hot over the dome of the state capitol, temperatures still hover
near the three-digit range, and shops are just beginning to turn down
the air conditioning and close their doors for the day. Tourists,
drawn by the aroma of crabs and beer, make their way toward cafe's
clustered near the water. Dinnertime singers test their microphones.
Out in the harbor, sailboats and dinghies, wind surfers and water
taxis head in to anchor or shore. The place is choked with boats,
but the real show has yet to begin.
