Article: Alleged Harassment of Black Families Probed at Patuxent Naval Station

Officials were investigating yesterday two alleged racial
incidents in housing areas at the Patuxent River Naval Air Station in
Lexington Park, Md.
In the first incident, July 31, naval officials said, a small
cross was burned on the lawn of a black family in the Carpenter Park
section of the base, which is in St. Mary's County about 60 miles
southeast of Washington. Base officials would not identify the
family.
The second incident culminated last Friday, when a racial epithet
and the initials "KKK" were spray-painted on the front sidewalk and
backyard shed of another black family living in base housing. Citing
