Article: ROANOKE COUNTY SCHOOLS CONSIDER TUITION INCREASE

It may soon cost parents who live outside of Roanoke County an extra $1,000 a year to send their kids to county schools.

The Roanoke County School Board at a meeting Wednesday night discussed raising tuition for nonresidents from $2,500 to $3,500. The change would take place in the 2006-07 school year.

Tuition rose from $1,000 to $2,500 in the 2003-04 school year. Students who were already enrolled in county schools were allowed to continue paying $1,000. This time, the county likely won't offer the same grandfather clause, said Allen Journell, assistant superintendent of instruction.
