While interim crew chief Steve Hmiel and Dale Earnhardt Jr. won
Sunday at Chicagoland Speedway, that doesn't mean they'll be together
after this season.
Hmiel, technical director at Dale Earnhardt Inc., replaced Pete
Rondeau as Earnhardt's crew chief before the Coca-Cola 600 in May.
Earnhardt said he has not discussed who to have as a crew chief
for next season.
"I don't think that's something we even need to worry about right
now," Earnhardt said. "I don't even know really what Steve's true
feelings are. I'm afraid that if we ever indulged into any of those
kinds of conversations and real deep conversations about that, it
may take away from how we're progressing.
