Bruce Kimball, the Olympic silver medalist who has been charged
with two counts of manslaughter while driving under the influence of
alcohol, said today he will compete in the U.S. Olympic diving trials
this week.
The announcement drew immediate criticism from the president of a
local chapter of Mothers Against Drunk Driving, who called it
"disgusting."
Flanked by about a dozen divers and friends and accompanied by
his tearful parents, Kimball said competing here would help him "get
from one day to the next," adding, "If I were in the workforce, I
would go back to work. For me, diving is my work and at times my job
and therefore a means for me to cope with each day."
