Last January's holes have temporarily been stapled shut for Timmy Smith, whose preseason rushing average is a miniscule 2.52 yards per carry.

Smith still hits the line of scrimmage head first, which means one of three things is happening: either he's struggling, the offensive line's struggling or the defenses have been relative brick walls.

Smith, who gained 204 yards and fame in the Redskins' Super Bowl victory over Denver, probably spoiled the masses, who now expect a performance half that every week.
