A genetic susceptibility may be present in most people who
develop colorectal cancers and premalignant colon polyps, researchers
at the University of Utah Medical Center in Salt Lake City report in
today's New England Journal of Medicine.
The researchers said that their study of 670 Utah residents
provided strong evidence of an interaction between inherited genes
and other factors such as diet and increasing age to determine why
some people are at greater risk than others of developing the colon
abnormalities.
"Inherited susceptibilites play a much more common role than
