For generations, Roanoke has been called one of the most
segregated cities in the South. However, as younger people of
varying races and ethnic groups continue to go to school with one
another, work together and meet one another socially, the dividing
lines have blurred, and romantic relationships have sparked.
As interracial dating becomes an afterthought, especially among
high school and college students, a question must be asked: Is a
segregated city such as Roanoke willing to embrace couples of
different backgrounds?
Cate Vierling, a senior at Glenvar High School, thinks so.
