A development team led by former Virginia Tech and NFL football
star Bruce Smith has made a formal proposal to develop the old Red
Lion Inn site in Blacksburg.
The proposal was submitted Monday to the Virginia Tech Foundation,
which has owned the 13-acre property at U.S. 460 and Prices Fork Road
since the 1960s. Bruce Smith Enterprise LLC announced in February
that it would spend 90 days studying the feasibility of a
redevelopment project that would bring residential, commercial and
retail space.
Monday's proposal indicates that developers found investment
potential in Blacksburg.
