Health experts expect "catastrophic" conditions to occur once the
flood waters that cover as much as three-fourths of Bangladesh begin
to recede significantly, probably after 10 days or two weeks.
Cholera, respiratory disorders, dysentery and other intestinal
diseases could become rampant after the waters have gone down,
preventing boat traffic, but before the lands dry out enough to allow
movement of vehicles.
Almost 120,000 cases of diarrhea already have been reported, but
Bangladesh health officials say that the situation still is under
control. Visits to isolated pockets in the countryside and to
