William Norris (Bill) Brown, 84, died Monday, September 25, 2006,
at his home in Lynchburg after a long and courageous battle with
cancer. He was the son of the late Cecil E. Long and Claude D. Brown,
Sr., and was preceded in death by his brother, Claude D. Brown, Jr.
of Florida. He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the 96th
Infantry Division in the invasion of the Philippines and Okinawa. He
was awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He was a member of the
Elks Lodge #321 and Rivermont Avenue Baptist Church. He is survived
by his loving wife of 58 years, Josephine Scott Brown; two daughters,
Kay McLaughlin and husband Ed of Richmond and Amy Carwile and husband
