A large turnover among coaches, a significant decrease in the
number of players on teams, the reclassification of Maryland schools
and the realignment of some Virginia districts are the immediate
issues taking center stage as the 1988 high school football season
gets into full swing with more than 80 games this weekend.
Anacostia was among a handful of teams that began their season
last week and, despite arriving 45 minutes late because of a traffic
jam, earned the Interhigh League a rare victory over a Virginia
school. The 22-12 victory over Gar-Field represented only the ninth
victory posted by an Interhigh League school in 59 games played
against Virginia schools since 1975.
