This is the season of Japan, the Italy of the Renaissance, and
especially of the photograph. It's been 150
years-approximately-since that medium was invented, and museums here
and elsewhere are about to mark that anniversary with a dozen varied
shows.
Half a dozen exhibitions will meanwhile be devoted to the art of
the Italian Renaissance. "Michelangelo: Draftsman/Architect" will go
on view Oct. 9 at the National Gallery of Art, and the gallery will
flank its two-part exhibition with associated shows. "Italian
Renaissance Drawings" will open there next Sunday; "The Art of Paolo
Veronese: 1528-1588," a retrospective commemorating the 400th
anniversary of that Venetian master's death, will ...
