The battle of the sexes is being carried out on new ground: the
presidential election.
According to the latest Washington Post-ABC News poll, George
Bush heads into the debate Sunday night leading Michael S. Dukakis by
4 percentage points, 50 to 46 percent. While neither candidate is
making voters dance in the aisles, several polls show that men are
supporting Bush over Dukakis, while women support Dukakis over Bush.
While this is true of both blacks and whites, it is more
pronounced in the white community because Dukakis is attracting more
black male support than Bush is attracting white female support.
Thus, it appears that white men may represent the critical mass in
this election.
