Defeat has never felt more disappointing to Jeff Agnew.

After rallying from a spin and a lap down to lead by a nose with half of a lap left in Saturday's Hooters Pro Cup Series race at Motor Mile Speedway, the Floyd driver and crowd favorite couldn't hold back rookie Brandon Ward, who forced Agnew high in Turns 3 and 4 and retook the lead en route to his first series win in six starts.

For Agnew, who set a standard for winning at this track in the early 1990s as a Late Model Stock driver, the outcome was the latest chapter in a series of heartbreaks at this track since joining the Hooters Pro Cup Series in 1998.

Despite six top-five finishes in 12 starts, he has never earned a victory.
