ANIMAL lovers are being urged to buy subsidised bat boxes from the
council in a bid to help city officials attract the midge-eating
creature to the Capital.
The GBP 3 boxes, which can fit six pipistrelle bats each, have
been introduced as part of a "bat-friendly" drive in the city to
boost their numbers.
It is feared swarms of midges - which the Evening News revealed
had descended on the city because of an untypically warm winter
allied to unusually high rainfall - will drive away tourists. Midge
attacks have made some parts of the Highlands almost unbearable in
summer.
Councillor Steve Cardownie said officers were on hand to advise
customers where and how to position the boxes.
