New York artist Greta Kempton has painted half a dozen portraits
of Harry Truman in her long and productive lifetime, so it was no
surprise when Riggs Bank CEO Joe Allbritton, long an admirer of
America's 33rd president, commissioned her at his own expense to do
another.
This one was hung in Blair House's Truman Study, for which
Allbritton also underwrote the redecoration in the recently completed
Blair House renovation.
Last week's installation ceremony found Allbritton and Margaret
Truman Daniel, a member of the Riggs board, in place, but not
Kempton. She was stranded in the lobby of her Washington hotel,
where she was overlooked by the limousine sent to pick her up, and
