Question F on the November ballot puts Silver Spring's
revitalization program up for vote. It asks Montgomery County
citizens to decide on Garage 60, a new short-term parking facility
intended to support retail revitalization of the Silver Spring
central business district.
And we need it so badly! Our lonely sidewalks, boarded-up
buildings and departing stores give mute testimony to an urgent need
for revitalization. Living only three blocks from the downtown, I
walk these half-deserted streets every day, dismayed by the sad
deterioration I see and longing for a real town center.
