Article: Food: Let the lime juice loose

THERE was a time when obesity was rare in this country. Now figures show that one in five people are overweight to the extent that it is affecting their health.

Recently it has been considered not politically correct to call someone "fat". Indeed, most overweight people would describe themselves as large or cuddly before saying "I am fat".

There is now talk of a fat tax - a tax to be levied on fattening foods - and, as a chef, many people have been asking my opinion on this. To be honest with you, I am all for it even though it sounds ridiculous. I make my living from cooking fattening foods, I enjoy eating fattening foods, yet I would welcome a tax on them.
