Article: Breast cancer hope for women at risk

WOMEN with a high risk of developing breast cancer are to be offered a powerful new drug in Edinburgh as part of a major trial aimed at preventing the disease.

A total of 500 women from across the region will be among 10,000 volunteers throughout the country taking part in a ten-year study of the treatment.

The Western General Hospital is one of 20 centres across the country taking part in trials of anastrozole, a drug proven to be the most effective hormone treatment for breast cancer.
