Visiting this fall's model rooms at Bloomingdale's gives one the
sensation of seeing 1988 design trends set within a crowded Chinese
market filled with exotica.
Using a "Year of the Dragon" theme, the store's designers have
created five model rooms labeled Beijing, Old Hong Kong, New Hong
Kong, Macao and Tibet. (The rooms tie in to the second Chinese
merchandising promotion by the New York-based department store; the
first was in 1980.)
The rooms are not intended as replicas, but as examples of
contemporary decorating with an Oriental flavor.
As created by Norman Minning, director of interior design for
Bloomingdale's at Tysons Corner, the Old Hong Kong room contrasts
