CITY chiefs have been fined GBP 3500 after a six-year-old pupil
almost drowned on a school trip to a Lothian beach.
The youngster was discovered floating face-down and unconscious in
a paddling pool at East Beach, North Berwick, during the school trip
last year.
Edinburgh City Council was fined GBP 3500 at Haddington Sheriff
Court after admitting putting children at risk at the East Lothian
beach.
Dugald Campbell, a headteacher at the school involved, which can
not be named for legal reasons, was also fined GBP 750 when he
pleaded guilty to putting children at risk of drowning and not making
proper health and safety assessments.
