Wall Street's attitude toward presidential candidates George
Bush and Michael S. Dukakis can be summed up in the words of the old
proverb: "Better the devil you know than the devil you don't know."
On Wall Street, they know and prefer Bush.
Traders, investment strategists and money managers say the reason
they prefer Bush is simple: They know what course he will follow if
he is elected. They are not at all sure what path Democrat Dukakis
would take.
To many on Wall Street, Bush represents the best hope for a
continuation of the economic and fiscal policies of Ronald Reagan,
policies that the investment community believes were good for the
country and the financial markets.
