A Washington consulting firm run by a longtime associate of
Republican presidential nominee George Bush sought post-election
business from the government of Haiti, citing its close ties to the
vice president and its ability to influence a new GOP administration
during the transition.
The firm, Bush & Co., sent a letter bearing the signature of its
president, Frederick M. Bush, to Haitian president Lt. Gen. Prosper
Avril on Oct. 12, the Orlando Sentinel reported. But Frederick Bush,
no relation to the Republican nominee, said yesterday he did not sign
the letter and that it was mailed by an overeager partner who did so
without his permission.
