IT all started with Gabrielle Chanel and her passion for reinventing sailor's clothing for women. The blue and white and red and white palette became ultra chic, with the nautical theme becoming a summer wardrobe staple.

It's been and gone countless times and this summer, the perennial favourite is back. This time around, however, the seafaring trend has left the old sailing cliches behind in favour of sleek, modern and somewhat sexy piratical looks.
