IT all started with Gabrielle Chanel and her passion for
reinventing sailor's clothing for women. The blue and white and red
and white palette became ultra chic, with the nautical theme becoming
a summer wardrobe staple.
It's been and gone countless times and this summer, the perennial
favourite is back. This time around, however, the seafaring trend has
left the old sailing cliches behind in favour of sleek, modern and
somewhat sexy piratical looks.
The 2005 nautical theme stemmed from the Balenciaga catwalk with
the ultra cool sailor girl dress. Chloe opted for two navy stripes on
white silk dresses and tight-fitting jackets worn with shorts, as did
