Fresh from their victory at Manassas, historians and
preservationists are now preparing to fight at Brandy Station to
prevent commercial development on that Civil War site.
Members of the Fredericksburg-based Association of Civil War
Sites Inc. and two other groups are concerned about a developer's
recent purchase of about 3,500 acres at Brandy Station, near
Culpeper, site of the largest cavalry battle of the war.
California developer Lee Sammis says his firm has no immediate
plans for the land except to farm it, and no development plans have
been filed with Culpeper County.
