Article: Capital bus fares are cheapest in the UK

EDINBURGH'S main bus firm offers the cheapest day ticket for travel anywhere in the UK.

New research shows Lothian Buses' charge of just GBP 2.30 for unlimited one-day travel is lower than in any other British city, where prices are up to GBP 4.40.

City leaders and transport campaigners today welcomed the findings, and said the uncommon decision to keep Lothian Buses a publicly-owned body helps keep fares low.

The huge number of bus passengers in Edinburgh - more proportionally than London - also means the cost of travel remains cheap.
