Article: Frantic search for Fife fishing boat missing in North Sea storm

A MAJOR search was under way in the North Sea today for a missing fishing boat with four Scots on board.

The trawler, from Anstruther in Fife, disappeared in violent storms last night.

Fishing leaders said families of the crewmen were "hoping beyond hope" they would return safely.

The missing boat is called the Meridian and three of the crew were local men from Fife's East Neuk while the fourth is understood to be from Aberdeen.

An RAF Nimrod search and rescue aircraft and a Sea King rescue helicopter from Stavanger in Norway have been out looking for the men.
