A CHINESE restaurant has been hit with GBP 18,000 in fines after
inspectors discovered mouse droppings in serving bowls and food
packaging.
The Rainbow Arch restaurant on Morrison Street was fined at
Edinburgh Sheriff Court after pleading guilty to nine charges
relating to a visit by environmental health inspectors in April.
At the time, the restaurant was described as being in a "filthy"
condition, contaminated by mouse droppings and having dirt-ridden and
broken work surfaces.
Inspectors also found an open sewage drain near the beer cellar
and discovered that hot food was being left to cool next to an open
door at the rear of the kitchen which looked out on a pigeon-
infested courtyard.
