Article: Bad luck comes in threes for Deep Sea as profitability sinks

DEEP Sea Leisure, the Scottish aquarium operator, saw its profitability slide over the last year as a triple whammy of blows hurt the company.

The group, which operates Deep Sea World at North Queensferry, described the year to October 31 as "exacting" as its earnings slipped to GBP 1.48 million, from GBP 1.65m the year before.

Revenues also edged lower to GBP 6.47m, from GBP 6.56m previously despite a higher average spend per visitor.

Deep Sea World boosted its average spend per visitor by 3.6 per cent to GBP 11.21, while visitors to DSL's Blue Planet centre at Ellesmere Port, in the north-west of England, spent an average GBP 12.10 - up 4.4 per cent. But the group insisted that ...
