President Reagan, in the final radio speech he will give from his
mountaintop ranch, today hailed the benefits of free international
trade and denounced protectionism as "a cheap form of nationalism."
When Reagan concludes his holiday trip Sunday and returns to
Washington, he will have spent 444 days of his presidency in
California, including 345 days at Rancho del Cielo.
He is scheduled to make another trip to California during the
Christmas holiday season but will divide his time between Los Angeles
and Palm Springs.
In his weekly speech, Reagan praised Canadian voters for keeping
the Progressive Conservative Party in power last Monday, making
