THE number of hospital patients in the Lothians on "hidden"
waiting lists is increasing again, despite a Government drive to
tackle the problem.
Nearly 5000 Lothian patients have been switched from main waiting
lists on to the "availability status code" list - which loses them
the guarantee of being treated within 18 weeks.
The Scottish Executive has demanded the controversial system is
scrapped by the end of the year, but NHS Lothian has fallen behind
its monthly targets, due in part to problems gaining access to
facilities at the Golden Jubilee National Hospital in Clydebank.
The former private hospital was bought by the Executive for GBP
37.5 million in 2002 to help bring down waiting ...
