Chrysler Corp. is the Houdini of the U.S. auto industry, a
master of Management by Magic. The only problem is that the
company's chief wizard, Lee A. Iacocca, is getting ready to retire.
That raises an important question for those remaining at
Chrysler: When Iacocca leaves three years from now, can the show go
on?
No one doubts that Iacocca will be a tough act to follow. Even
some of his sharpest critics admit that the man appears to be a
genius when it comes eluding trouble and turning dross into profit.
