When a particularly disagreeable cold struck full force the
other day, I did what my mother taught me to do and took the WASP
Cure: I went to bed with a big bottle of Canada Dry ginger ale and a
couple of novels by John P. Marquand. It works every time.
Forty-eight hours later I was on my feet again, healed and refreshed
by the potent mixture of carbonation and jollification.
It had been eight years since I'd read "So Little Time" and
"Point of No Return," and God willing it will be eight years before I
read either again; that's about as often as I'm up to a cold of such
severity or a Marquandian spree of such intensity. But much though I
