Maryland consumer groups, following the lead of California voters
who approved a 20 percent auto insurance rate rollback, are gearing
up for regulatory revisions but are unlikely to call for outright
rate cuts.
They are contemplating proposals that would force changes in the
automobile insurance industry in the state, including greater
regulatory oversight, removal of exemptions from the consumer
protection act and changes in the way rates are calculated, according
to two of the groups, National Insurance Consumer Organization and
Maryland Citizen Action Coalition.
