WHAT a great pity that Sandy Smith (Letters, May 12) chose to
spoil his point concerning the ruinous bigotry in Scottish society.
The second half of his letter was devoted to sneering and
predictably gloomy forecasts about the Old Firm's fortunes in English
football. Alas, this suggests that his period in exile south of the
Border has not completely rid him of the equally ruinous chip which
pervades too many Scots.
While it may be a source of understandable mirth that most Scots
will look forward to England being toasted in the imminent World Cup,
it is less immediately obvious why people such as Mr Smith can't bear
the thought of Rangers and Celtic flourishing outside Scottish
borders.
