Montgomery County would ban the sale of food or drink in any
container or wrapping that is not degradable in the environment under
legislation introduced yesterday before the County Council.
The bill, introduced by council member Michael L. Subin, is aimed
at the plastic and plastic foam used to package food.
The disposable items do not decompose, and Subin said they end up
taking up space in shrinking landfills or as ugly litter on county
streets, land and waterways.
"I want the government and the community to start getting serious
about the damage we are doing to the environment," Subin said.
