ALASTAIR Campbell, Tony Blair's communications director and his
most trusted lieutenant, is understood to be considering quitting the
government later this year, Scotland on Sunday has learned from
Downing Street insiders.
Campbell, a crucial figure in the Prime Minister's 10 Downing
Street operation for the last nine years, could leave as early as the
end of July. His departure would be another blow to Blair, leaving
the Prime Minister with almost none of the original team who forged
New Labour and who have worked closely with him in Downing Street
since 1997.
Campbell has recently been blamed for "sexing up" secret
intelligence used in Downing Street dossiers to justify war with
