Article: Management buyouts to reach GBP 20bn by year end

MANAGEMENT buyouts will hit GBP 20bn this year - the second highest ever by value - according to preliminary figures released by the Centre for Management Buyout Research.

The highest value recorded was GBP 23.9bn in 2000, which included the GBP 3.5bn MEPC deal.

Exits have also been at an encouraging level this year, with the total number standing at 258 by the end of November - 11 more than the 2003 total.

However, the value of exits in 2003 has nearly doubled this year to more than GBP 17bn.

That's the highest annual total ever recorded by some margin - even though almost two thirds (64.4 per cent) of the total value realised came from the 20 largest exits.
