Teri Reaves was hesitant at first about becoming a debutante.
There would be lessons in the social graces, rehearsals and cultural
enrichment trips. "I was kind of stand-offish," said the 16-year-old
Vienna resident, worrying about the time and effort.
But last month, Reaves was all smiles in a rustling white gown
and gloves as she swept through a crowd of more than 500 guests at a
black-tie cotillion at the Sheraton Premiere in Tysons Corner. She
now describes her debut as an exhilarating rite of passage.
"It's going to be something I'll tell my children in later
years," said the 11th grader at Thomas Jefferson High School for
Science and Technology, an academically rigorous magnet ...
