TORY leadership candidate David Davis was last night preparing to
revive his flagging campaign by shaking up his back-room team and
calling on the services of one of the most notorious election
fighters seen in British politics for a generation.
After a week in which he plummeted from front-runner in the race
to succeed Michael Howard with a lacklustre conference speech and
impressive performances by all his rivals, Davis has bowed to
pressure from key supporters and agreed to radical changes in his
leadership bid. Campaign manager Andrew Mitchell, a long-term ally of
the shadow home secretary who has drawn criticism for his abrasive
