ONLY 1 per cent of Scottish teachers believe a record GBP 2.15bn
investment programme in their schools is actually intended to improve
pupils' education.
The astonishing findings of a survey of 1,400 primary and
secondary school staff come despite claims last week by First
Minister Jack McConnell that the McCrone deal "was about Scotland's
children".
The most popular response when asked what teachers saw as the main
point of the agreement related to the changes it had brought to their
own working hours and pay, which increased by 23 per cent over three
years. Nearly half cited the changes in working hours as the purpose
