Article: GNER's fate hangs on result of legal battle

SEA Containers, the troubled transport group, will decide the fate of its GNER subsidiary on Thursday when the result of a legal battle over access to the east coast train line is expected.

GNER recently brought a High Court challenge to a decision by the Office of the Rail Regulator to allow rivals to run train services on the flagship line without having to pay the same charges as GNER. The firm claimed in court that the decision amounted to unlawful discrimination and unlawful state aid for the rivals, Grand Central and Hull Trains.
